Cutter and Kaytie spoke with A Dead Desire frontman and founding member Moroni Silva about how the band formed, recovering from addiction, and his newly released cover of the Eurythmics’ “Here Comes the Rain Again” featuring late All That Remains guitarist Oli Herbert. It turns out that Moroni and Oli came up with the idea of covering the Eurythmics’ song while having a few drinks one night. They recorded a small part of the song on Moroni’s phone before eventually covering the track.
“We had been jamming for a few hours in the hotel room… and it was probably around one or 2 in the morning that we started talking about cover songs. We gave our opinions about what we think about cover songs. And we started talking about the rock bands that were doing it and I was like ‘ya know, Marilyn Manson did a really really good version of Eurythmics’ Sweet Dreams but I think he chose the wrong song. I personally like ‘Here Comes the Rain Again’ more than ‘Sweet Dreams.’ And he was like ‘Lets do it.’ And I was like ‘What like a cover song?’ and was like Yeah, Lets do it.”
When asked if Oli had the opportunity to hear the song before he passed:
“He loved it. He was super excited about it. He was like ‘Sounds great guys.’ It sucks that he wasn’t able to celebrate the release of it.”
Since the release of the song (listen below), the widow of Oli Herbert took to Facebook to threaten action against the release of that track:
When asked about the possibility of a lawsuit, Moroni said:
“There’s nothing that she can really do as far as I know. I researched everything, the legalities before I actually released the song. I went to the proper legal channels.”
He continued:
“What she’s saying is that this was finished after he died. Which it was finished before he died we just hadn’t come up with the release because I was in the accident.”
A Dead Desire is a creation of Moroni Silva which started after Silva rid himself of a heroin addiction in 2015. Silva had a vision during a spiritual retreat in which he saw a dead body that turned out to be his own. In that moment, A Dead Desire was born.
