The long saga of I Prevail and Brian Burkheiser splitting ways has another chapter logged in as Brian has finally been allowed to speak out on the legal issues that were holding him back from releasing any new music. Brian has Eagle’s Syndrome and back in 2024 he had surgery to repair the nodules on his vocal cords. A surgery that he was very excited for, especially after the arduous battle with his mental health that had sidelined him in years previous.
He goes into how coming out the surgery things weren’t going the way he’d hoped and that led to a Zoom call with the entire band and the team along with it. Some of the band members he remembers had his back and understood where he was coming from, others, he states, he did not talk to and has still not. he says after saying he wouldn’t be doing the European tour many moves were made without his input. After that tour he did play a few shows with them, he felt the communication broke down and by the time the Parkway Drive tour of Australia came to a close he was no longer being communicated with the band directly.
He maintains that he really thought the band and he would work things out. It came down to a final phone call. He ultimately decided to move on from the band though he says that decision was not because he did not want to quit the band. He says having to stay quiet about it was the hardest part.
He talks about how becoming a father during this time was both incredibly hard and the greatest gift he has ever been giving.
It was right after the announcement that he was out of the band that his life seemed to really get difficult. From finding out that some friends weren’t the people he had thought they were. After that he became consumed by the negative comments online and social media. He opens up about a writing trip that turned into a manic episode. He was in a weird spot of not knowing what people had heard about him, a lot of paranoia around people’s perceptions of him.
This interview is long but it provides an incredible in depth look at what the last 25 months have looked like for Brian and his family. Today also marks the first time his new band has been allowed to release original music. His first song ‘PHASES’ which lyrics paint a picture of optimism in the face of some incredible obstacles.
