Former Mastodon Guitarist Brent Hinds Has Died

In what has been the most uprooting year for the band Mastodon one more major blow has been dealt as Brent Hinds, former guitarist, has died at the age of 51 as a result of a motorcycle accident in the Atlanta area.

Mastodon took to social media with the following statement:

We are in a state of unfathomable sadness and grief… last night Brent Hinds passed away as a result of a tragic accident. We are heartbroken, shocked, and still trying to process the loss of this creative force with whom we’ve shared so many triumphs, milestones, and the creation of music that has touched the hearts of so many. Our hearts are with Brent’s family, friends, and fans. At this time, we please ask that you respect everyone’s privacy during this difficult time.

In March it was announced that Brent and Mastodon were parting ways after 25 years. Though it appears now that Brent was more or less forced out and there was significant bad blood between he and the rest of the band. Today we mourn the loss of a true original, a behemoth in the world of heavy music and a character that has been the center of a million stories. Rest easy, Brent.
