The rumor mill is rampant this morning.
Over the weekend, Linkin Park posted a countdown clock. They’ve been on hiatus since Chester passed in 2017 so the internet was a flurry all weekend as fans tried to determine what the countdown clock was signaling. Could it be new music? Perhaps a tour?
Yesterday, Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley announced that he has an announcement coming. And guess when it’s coming? Yup. The same day and time as Linkin Park’s countdown clock ending.

A few months back, Billboard reported that Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, and Dave Farrell had been “mulling a possible 2025 reunion tour and are considering hiring a female vocalist to succeed late lead singer Chester Bennington”, with booking agency WME “taking offers for a potential Linkin Park tour”.
At the time, one of Billboard’s sources said that the band was hoping to find a female vocalist.
The rumors of an LP reunion tour were further fueled when Orgy’s Jay Gordon appeared on Wired in the Empire on KCAL 96.7 and stated that he had heard rumors of a Linkin Park Reunion.
“Very, very cool guys and obviously a great band. They’ve been around a long time and they’re still going for it,. It’s going to be tough without Chester, but we’ll see. I hear they got a girl singer now. That’s what I heard.”
Later, Gordon stated that his comments had been taken out of context, writing “With regards to this Linkin Park singer thing. I know nothing about any of that.”
So what exactly does all of this mean? We don’t know. We’ll be at the edge of our seats tomorrow at 1:15p when the Linkin Park countdown clock ends. Until then, enjoy this 2018 Reading Festival performance where Deryck Whibley and Mike Shinoda performed ‘Faint.’
