Spotify is about to give Ticketmaster and Live Nation a run for their money.
In June, The Information broke the news that Spotify was planning to get into the live event business by selling concert tickets. The idea was that the move could also help improve relations with artists. Now Techcrunch reports that Spotify has launched a new site which sells tickets to live shows directly from its platform instead of redirecting users to outside ticket vendors.
Spotify has not made an official announcement but instead silently launched the new website, tickets.spotify.com. Currently only a handful of shows are available for purchase including those for Dirty Honey, Limbeck, Annie DiRusso, Crows, Osees, and TOKiMONSTA.
Spotify recently updated their live event section to highlight popular events in each user’s area.
We’re not sure of the legal agreements between artists & event listings but this change is sure to shake up the ticketing market.
