The mighty Dorothy pulled up a seat on Zoom with Decker to chat about her band’s recent release Gifts From The Holy Ghost. We chat about her working with Keith Wallen of Breaking Benjamin right after their tour that ended in ’19, she said that he reached out to her and wanted ot work with her on new music. Once that started more and more people started reaching out wanting to help write the album including former Five Finger Death Punch guitarist Jason Hook.
We conitnued about the recording process, Dorothy stating this about her own performance.
‘I was really picky about my vocals on this record…I did a lot of vocal production with Joseph McQueen, I loved his mic and I loved his ear set up everything sounded great and I felt really comfortable to just go for it in the studio in a way that I never did before…it was just me and him there was no other people in there to tell me.. when people start kind of riding me…I’m an artist where you gotta back off that doesn’t work for me…’
We also chatted about the creation of the title track ‘Gifts From The Holy Ghosts’ and where the inspiration for the title came from.
‘It felt very light and bright…light and bright rock n roll with some beautiful messaging, I think in there, that’s full of hope…funny actually the band and I wrote that during a sound check and it was originally called Spokane Fire…I think it was Eli Wolfmeir that started playing the riff that you hear in the beginning of the song…I was singing gibberish into my phone…and I was translating my gibberish into lyrics…we didn’t have a chorus and I woke up, this is pretty cool, and I woke up in my hotel room in Brooklyn and “Gifts from the holy ghost’ popped into my head and I was like “Holy shit that’s the album title that’s the name of the record”…I knew ‘Spokane Fire’ had something special…and I listened to the chorus and the album title fit into the chorus…’
