We had the chance to speak with Ayron Jones during the 2022 Mental Health Awareness Month of May. Jones was very open in sharing his personal struggles, as well as things he does to help combat the darkness. Jones first touched on growing up in a broken household, and how events from very early on in his life still have an effect on him today.
“My mom was about 19 years old when she had me, and my dad wasn’t too much older but he was never around. And my mom… There was like, a big drug epidemic of the 90’s so she was dealing with some addiction issues and could not be a consistent parent. So when I turned 7 years old or so, I got taken in by my aunt because my mom had left me at daycare and never came back to grab me.”
When asked about how he got through these and other traumatic events, Jones said sometimes it just has to be worked through.
“I had to learn how to live with the trauma, as opposed to trying to get rid of it. That was the downfall of a lot of people, you know they wanna try and overcome it by saying ‘oh I’m over it, the pain is gone.’ It never really goes away, it’s always something that’s gonna be stuck with you.”
Thank you to Ayron Jones for being so open about your experiences in life. Check out the full interview below.
