Mastodon has been one of my top three favorite bands for quite sometime now. The soaring guitar riffs, incredible melodies and even more impressive lyrics. The stories that are told are amazing metaphors for deep despair and incredible loss. Their newest album Hushed and Grim is an epic piece of coming to terms with death and grief. Heavy stuff.
Brann has a fascinating back story and is very into horror films. Seeing where he gets his inspiration from is incredible to hear as well.
“…For me it probably (goes) more to…like movies are more of an inspiration for me…I was raised on movies and going to movies….”
He also talks about how his “weekend dad” used to take him to the theater and watch movies with him and then ask him what he thought of them and all about the plot and character motivations were. A very interesting talk enfolded, check it out!
