The third and final Woodstock took place in 1999 on the 30th anniversary of the original festival for peace, love, and music. To this day, the 1999 edition of Woodstock has a dark cloud over it. There were riots and fires breaking out, reports of rape, vendors overcharging for water and food, not enough security, and numerous other issues that plagued the festival. The music was more aggressive and the festival was more corporate. This new doc goes behind the scenes with interviews from The Offspring, Moby, Jonathan Davis of Korn, Scott Stapp of Creed, and more. There’s also archival footage with Metallica, Limp Bizkit, among others.
The film’s debut will coincide with the 22nd anniversary of the festival and is the first in the Music Box series, a collection of documentary films created by Bill Simmons, debuting in the fall. “Music Box: Woodstock 99: Peace, Love, And Rage” will be out on July 23rd on HBO and HBO Max.
