While most of Wisconsin is seeing a decline in new coronavirus cases, Omro is seeing a sharp spike this month. The Winnebago County Health Department reports 12-confirmed cases among students at Omro High School–with another eight cases involving adults at the school. There were also more than 170-close contacts with those cases. Rates for the city as a whole are 30-percent higher than the rest of the county. Health Officer Doug Gieryn blames high school students gathering outside of the school day for the spread. Both the Omro girls and boys basketball teams had to forfeit out of the W-I-A-A basketball playoffs last week due to COVID issues.
