Matt Heafy, guitarist and vocalist for Trivium, released a new solo song called “My Mother Told Me”. The song is a cover of a song that appeared on the show Vikings. It was released as a three-track bundle, one version is more of his tradition metal style, along with an acoustic version, and an a cappella version. When asked why he covered that song, Heafy said:
“‘Vikings’ is one of the greatest series out there. Everything about it truly takes the viewer on a journey to a time we so often dream about. I consider ‘Vikings’ a very ‘metal’ show with its thematics being something many heavy bands want to write about.
When I first heard King Harald singing ‘My Mother’, I immediately looked for a recorded version. I only found a transformed version, but I wanted the folk version. I decided to create ‘My Mother’ in three interpretations. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I do.”
In July, it was announced that Heafy signed a solo deal with Roadrunner Records, and at the same time released his cover of “Toss A Coin To Your Witcher” from the show The Witcher. Heafy has had a lot of success with his Twitch stream, where he originally covered the song. Trivium’s drummer, Alex Bent, played drums for the song, which can be hear below.
