Greta Van Fleet released a new song, their first in over year, called “My Way, Soon”. The band also debuted a music video to accompany the release, that was shot, edited, and directed by the band. Last year the band said they are hoping to distance themselves from the comparisons Led Zeppelin, but don’t worry, the song and video still keep a 60’s and 70’s vibe that the band is known for. According to the band, the song reflects the the personal transformation that they have gone through since they were just kids making music to their growing fame around the world. Vocalist Josh Kiszka said:
“This song was inspired by what three years of touring did by opening so many doorways. This is my truth, how I feel about all of our travels, but I know it echoes the experiences and changes of perspectives for Jake, Sam and Danny as well.”
Drummer Danny Wagner added:
“The definition of ‘normal’ has very much broadened over the past couple of years, and it has affected us as musicians, especially in the writing and recording of this new album. We realized that while growing up, we had been shielded by a lot of things, we were unaware of a lot of things. And then we were thrown out into this huge world, and it was a bit of a culture shock at first.”
Over the past three years Bassist Sam Kiszka said they learned a lot about the world:
“We’ve seen how people live in different parts of the world and we’ve developed intrinsic respect for different cultures and people. We’ve gone from driving down a highway to a show and seeing endless miles of shantytowns in Sao Paulo, to playing some of the richest places on earth.”
Guitarist Jake Kiszka added that as they have seen more cultures, people, and traditions around the world, that they have also seen a similarity between themselves and the different cultures. He said, “It surprises me how similar we all are.”
