The number of COVID-19 patients in hospitals continues to spike, and now the state is opening an alternate care facility in the Milwaukee area.
The decision comes at the same time the state set two new single-day records, with 141 new coronavirus patients and 853 overall. There were 286 patients in Wisconsin one month ago.
Governor Evers says patients from around the state, including the Fox Valley, could be transferred to the 530-bed facility at State Fair Park. He says Wisconsin is in a much different and dire place today, and hospital systems are being overwhelmed.
Evers says the facility will mostly be for patients transitioning out of the hospital. It’s expected to open next Wednesday.
