Republican U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson of Oshkosh announced over the weekend he caught COVID-19.
He says he got tested last Friday, on his way to a fundraising dinner in Mequon that evening. While he was at the fundraiser, he says he only took off his mask when it was time to speak. Johnson says he also sat at least eight feet from anybody.
Johnson’s staff reported he was exposed to someone with coronavirus. Johnson says he’s been tested a lot because he’s been on Air Force One and Two. He thought it would be a routine test, and it would come back negative.
Johnson revealed his diagnosis on Saturday, and at that time, said he was felt completely normal.
He’s the third Republican U.S. Senator to test positive, joining Sens. Mike Lee of Utah and Thom Tillis of North Carolina.
