Hospital beds are filling up with coronavirus patients around the state, and the Department of Health Services might have to open an emergency facility.
It’s at State Fair Park in the Milwaukee area.
Secretary Andrea Palm says they built it for a worst-case scenario, and they hope they still don’t get to that point. She says they’ve told hospitals that the state would need four to seven days, to get the facility up and running.
Hospitals in Wisconsin have 646 COVID-19 patients, and that’s up 75 percent over the last 14 days. The numbers have more than doubled in the past month.
Some hospitals in the Fox Valley, Green Bay, and Wausau areas overwhelmed. Doctors are moving patients to other facilities.
Palm says there’s an urgency for people to take action, to slow the spread of the virus.
