Coheed And Cambria wrote a sequel to Rick Springfield‘s 1981 hit “Jessie’s Girl“ and enlisted Springfield himself for the track, which they named “ Jessie’s Girl 2“. Coheed And Cambria frontman Claudio Sanchez describes the song as being “kind of like a National Lampoon’s movie meets So I Married an Axe Murderer.”
“Has anyone ever written a sequel to another artist’s song? don’t think so. As a fan of movies, it just seemed like a really interesting idea.”
The idea started when Sanchez was using the vocals to “Jessie’s Girl” during a 2019 Coheed And Cambria started writing session, but it wasn’t until Sanchez pitched the idea to Springfield on Instagram that the song came together.
The sequel takes a more murderous tone to it. The music videos for both the sequel and “Jessie’s Girl” by Rick Springfield can be seen below.
Coheed And Cambria will be releasing a 7″ for the single with a “director’s cut” version appearing on the b-side which is expected to be released on September 4th.
