An overnight fire damages a Fond du Lac landmark.
Fire Chief Peter O’Leary says crews were called to the former Northern Casket Company around 2:45 a.m. The building is at 16 North Brooke Street.
He says they saw heavy smoke coming from the back of the building, and were able to keep the fire from spreading to the rest of the building.
O’Leary thinks someone may have started the fire in the abandoned building, either on purpose or by accident.
He says a Fond du Lac police officer on routine patrol noticed the fire and called it in.
