There won’t be a traditional Memorial Day parade along College Avenue in Appleton this year, but members of some local veterans organizations still want to do something special.
Eric Stadler of the American Legion Scarlet Guard Color Guard is helping plan a tour of five Appleton cemeteries on Sunday. He says they’ll have a motorcade between the stops, and they’ll hold a rifle salute and play taps at each one.
He expects 15 to 20 members will participate, and they’ll practice social distancing.
He thinks they might continue the salutes for years to come.
Organizers of Appleton’s Memorial Day parade will hold a virtual event Monday.
