A Republican leader was calling on Governor Evers to spend some federal stimulus money on long-term care facilities.
Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke of Vandenbroek thinks they should’ve been at the top of the list, because that’s where about 40 percent of coronavirus deaths have happened.
He says the president of St. Paul Elder Services in Kaukauna is concerned about the costs of testing employees when they get to work. Steineke expects long-term care facilities will eventually be required to do that every day.
That could cost St. Paul Elder Services $170,000 a month.
Evers says the state wanted to help them long-term care facilities sooner, but they couldn’t use previous federal money that was earmarked for hospitals.
