The Community Blood Center in Grand Chute will start antibody testing for coronavirus to find potential plasma donors.
Hospitals are using that plasma to treat current COVID-19 patients.
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Todd Straus says they’re targeting people who were sick and thought they had coronavirus, but were never tested.
He says they’re also going to be testing a random segment of blood donors, to see if they may have had the virus. Straus says if they don’t find anyone with the antibody they’ll stop, because of the cost.
He estimates every recovered COVID-19 donor can help up to 15 people with the virus. About 50 people have signed up for the antibody testing, so far.
