A Republican lawmaker strongly opposes to two parts of a federal stimulus bill passed by House Democrats last weeks.
Congressman Glenn Grothman of Glenbulah doesn’t think they should be extending the additional $600 a week federal unemployment payments to January, right now. If someone gets the maximum amount from the state too, he says they’d be receiving about $50,000 a year in benefits.
Grothman says he’s already heard from some businesses that workers are questioning returning to their job, because of that.
He says undocumented workers shouldn’t be able to receive direct stimulus payments. He was pleased to see some House Democrats stand up against that idea.
Senate Republicans aren’t planning to take up the House bill.
