Phil Demmel of Vio-lence/ex-Machinehead joined together with several musicians to cover Thin Lizzy’s “Bad Reputation”. According to Demmel, this is a first is a series called Collab-A-Jam:
“After Marta and I had so much fun doing “No Excuses”, I invited my buds Dave McClain (Sacred Reich/Machine Head), Richie Faulkner (Judas Priest), Mike Inez (Alice in Chains, Ozzy, BLS, pretty much every band) and resident Bad-Ass Lzzy Hale (Halestorm) to jam on one of my favorite tunes by one of my favorite bands Mixed by Paul Fig, Vid edit by Todd Shuss. More “Collab-A-Jams” coming and look for a guest-oriented Guitar breakdown and play-through show coming as soon as the Shelter in Place rules allow.”
The musicians were recorded at home as they are continue to self-isolate.
At the end of April, Demmel and his wife, Marta, posted their version of “No Excuses” with his cover band The Merkins. The video can be seen below.
“On the anniversary of Layne’s passing (April 5th), I asked Marta if she would want to record it in our home studio where it would be the 1st vocals I’ve recorded there and her 1st time recording a lead vocal track. It was a fun learning experience so we asked our friends, Dave McClain (Sacred Reich, MH) and Eric Bass (Shinedown) to help complete the track. We’ve decided to share that experience with you all knowing that its far from perfect, as we all as humans are. I’ll be adding a ton of video content in the coming weeks. LOTS of cool things on the docket. Thanks to Scott Kirkeeng for the Vid edit and to Juan Urteaga for the quick mix. Much love and respect to Jerry, Mike, Sean and Layne for creating such a beautiful song. RIP LS.”
