Metallica and Sweet Amber Distilling Co. have released Blackened American Whiskey’s Batch 100. Metallica’s gold medal award-winning whiskey will come in a limited-edition box set that includes two 12-inch vinyl picture discs of the Metallica playlist used in the finishing process to enhance the whiskey, plus the first edition of the unavailable-elsewhere Blackened Zine.
Blackened created with legendary master distiller Dave Pickerell in 2018 with Batch 81, to honor the year the band formed. Metallica’s music to literally make the whiskey. According to Sweet Amber Distilling Co:
“Each batch of BLACKENED has a unique playlist that was used to sonically enhance the whiskey during finishing. As the well-aged whiskey rests in the finishing barrels, the music is played to the barrel causing the whiskey inside to move and interact with the wood. The movement of the whiskey and the amount of interaction depends on the song being played, so the variation of the music creates a slight nuance from one batch to the next. Throughout this process, Dave tests the whiskey to determine the optimal color and flavor profile for each batch.”
