Octoberfest organizers want to come up with ways to help local nonprofits, without holding the major in-person event on College Avenue in Appleton.
The group’s Eric Stadler says plenty of groups rely on the money they receive. He says over the years, they’ve provided $3 million in grants to various programs.
Every year, the proceeds from about 100 booths go to different nonprofits. Stadler says they also donate money to organizations that help sell wristbands, and pick up trash.
He says the Octoberfest committee is working to come up with ideas to hold a “re-imagined” festival this year.
College Avenue is packed for the event every year, on the final Saturday of September.
