After initially hoping to just make masks for friends and family, a group founded by a nurse is closing in on 250,000.
Liz Beneke started the regional chapter of Wisconsin Facemask Warriors, and she admits she can’t sew. But she says she realized there was a need for masks, so she reached out to others on social media, and many people volunteered.
Beneke says they handed out about 205,000 in 35 days, and now they’re over 229,000.
She estimates they have about 1,000 people sewing, and many others helping deliver the masks, and collecting donations.
Beneke is also a veteran, and about 5,000 of the masks are going to Fort Bliss, Fort Hood, and Camp Pendleton.
