The steps governments are taking to deal with coronavirus is bringing back memories of the spread of polio in the 1950s.
Dr. Lowell Peterson of Appleton says there were procedures, when there was a probable case in a home. He says every county had a quarantine officer, and that person would put up a “quarantine” sign on the house.
Peterson says sometimes one child in a house would catch polio, but their brothers or sisters wouldn’t.
He says before there was a vaccine, people were told to avoid crowded places, like movie theaters.
