State Department of Health Services Secretary Andrea Palm says public health officials believe without the “stay at home” order, there would be 22,000 coronavirus cases in Wisconsin by April 8th.
Between 400 and 1,500 people would die. Palm says thousands of people would need to be hospitalized, and that would exceed the number of available hospital beds.
She says the projections are based on what happened in other places, like China and Italy.
Palm is calling on people to limit their in-person contact to five people. She says that’s not five different people at a time, but a total of five people.
