The Evers administration is hoping that people will follow the “safer at home” order, but police can enforce it, if necessary.
The Governor’s Chief Legal Counsel Ryan Nilsesteun says police officers and Sheriff’s deputies can investigate complaints, and prosecutors can file charges. He hopes that people will chip in and play their part, so it doesn’t reach that point.
People could be charged with a misdemeanor, and get a $250 fine for breaking the order.
Restaurants and bars could permanently lose their liquor license. They will be able to stay open, for take-out and delivery.
