A new admissions unit is open at the Winnebago Mental Health Institute in Oshkosh.
Gynger Steele is an Assistant Administrator for the state Department of Health Services. She says it will help them figure out the best way to help patients.
Steele says they’re trying to determine each patient’s needs, and finding the best place for them to go. In the past, patients would be sent to a building with an open bed.
She says the facility accepts emergency detentions, and they have a short time to prepare for their stay.
It’s the first time the department is trying the admissions system.
