Restaurants and bars in Madison can’t give straws to customers anymore, if they don’t specifically ask for one.
Jared Schumacher of the Madison Climate Reality Project doesn’t think it will be a big deal. He compares it to people asking for a fork at a restaurant.
He wondered how many people use straws, when they drink something at home. He says most just drink out of their glass.
Ald. Syed Abbas introduced the proposal. He’d also like to pursue other rules limiting plastic bottles, bags, and other items, but that’s not allowed under current state law.
