Oshkosh is dealing with a potentially explosive situation on the south side of the city.
A methane gas venting system will be installed in what was once the Kienast-Paulus Landfill. City Manager Mark Rohloff says the dump along Knapp Street was once located outside the city, but it was eventually capped and developed.
The cost for the methane venting system is just over $1 million. The city is also looking to buy some of the surrounding homes to create a larger buffer zone.
