A study shows the amount of money people pay toward rent in the Oshkosh and Neenah area is among the lowest in the country.
Refiguide.org looked at rates, and compared them to income. People in the Oshkosh and Neenah market have about 73 percent of their pay left over, after rent. That’s ranked 18th in the U.S.
Donn Lord of the Winnebago Apartment Association says while it’s wonderful to have low rental costs, that can create some challenges. He says landlords might not be putting enough money into upkeep, and maintenance.
He believes the low rates could also discourage new landlords from getting into the industry, at a time when demand is growing faster than supply.
Fond du Lac is ranked 12th on the list, with nearly 74 percent of pay left over, after rent.
