Governor Evers plans to work with Republican lawmakers in the wake last week’s school shootings in Oshkosh and Waukesha.
He was on Up Front, and he hopes to help students with mental health issues. He believes mental health is a small factor in violence, but kids have traumatic experiences. He says the state needs to take steps to help them.
The governor doesn’t plan to call a special session to consider any proposals.
A 16-year-old student at Oshkosh West High School is accused of stabbing a school police officer last Tuesday. Police say Officer Mike Wissink then shot the boy.
The Winnebago County District Attorney hasn’t filed formal charges yet. Police want the teen to be charged with attempted murder.
