The City of Oshkosh is looking to spend less on debt payments in the future.
The Common Council will vote tonight on a new debt management plan.
City Manager Mark Rohloff says about 30 percent of the 2020 budget will go toward past bills. He says the maximum recommendation is 33 percent, and ideally, they’d like to be around 25 percent.
Rohloff says every dollar that doesn’t go to paying off debt can be used for day-to-day operations.
Oshkosh has already exceeded its previous goal of being at just 70 percent of its debt limit by 2020. The new plan sets a target of less than 50 percent of the debt cap.
