Things have gotten a little murky for the band Plush after announcing a new single called ‘Why?’. As soon as the band posted the teaser picture for the single with the cover art and a behind the scenes photo that says the song was co-written by David Draiman of Disturbed the turmoil began. Comments claiming the band used AI to produce the cover art began to funnel in. Along with those comments came people tearing into the band for working with David Draiman, who’s very outspoken support of Israel has been a point of contention for people around the world. Comments range from “AI artwork, and working with a genocide denier… Yikes. Seen y’all live 3 times, but damn, this is disappointing to see.” to “If this is AI generated art as it’s been accused of being, then I am grossly disappointed in this band, and I feel hurt by this. I do not support anyone who use AI art.”
Within hours of the band posting this Bella Perron, guitarist for Plush, announced via her personal Instagram that she would be leaving the band citing the use of AI in the artwork and the bands morals no longer align with her own.
To which the band responded admonishing the comments and rumors of AI use. They claim they hired a graphic designer to work a design based off a photo bassist Ashley Suppa had taken. They go on to explain the song, which has not been released yet nor has anyone heard, is not about war or divisiveness but rather ‘The importance of unity in the face of oppression and hatred.’ They also state that they found out about Bella’s departure through her social media post.
The band has not commented further on the matter and neither has Bella. We will wait until June 20th to hear the song and we look forward to seeing what Bella does in her future musical endeavors.
