Karrion Kross is one of the most interesting characters in WWE these days. His constant lurking, plotting and mischief making has made many of the stories playing out on the screen that much more deep. He gives the current creative team lots of credit for giving him a solid skeleton to work with and then takes things to the next level from there.
‘ Well truthfully I kind of adjust on the daily to what is given to me from the creative team. A lot of credit I would say goes to them, in terms of how we are developing the character right now. They’ll create a framework as to what they need for the day and I’ll essentially insert the character into that framework to support whatever they need to get out of it and create something intriguing for fans…What you typically see with the “heel” is they’re attempting to get “heat” right, a lot of times the things I’m being given they don’t really allow me to elicit a negative response from the audience backstage. So what I think to myself, is I have to give them a reason as to why they’re watching this segment. I can’t just be happy with getting to be on TV, and just doing what they’re giving me. I gotta get in here and do something that will make people want to watch this 5 seconds or 10 seconds or 30 seconds back. What’s something I can do here? Whether I’m foreshadowing or making a deliberate call back to something that’s been said previously…that’s kind of what I’m thinking going into this stuff.’
We continue to talk more wrestling business, with a moment of maniacal laughter that might be seen as a bit of foreshadowing for the upcoming show. Karrion is a very intelligent man when it comes to how he is perceived on TV and through the promos that have gone viral. As a fan of pro wrestling it is fascinating to hear how a man who occupies a very different type of space makes the most of his time.
Karrion is releasing a book in August called Life Is Fighting and he told me it’s an autobiography that he hopes can entertain people but also help people through their struggles by hopefully not doing what he did to get through his.
‘For a really long time people were telling me I should write a book…Most of my life I’ve been sort of an inward person, I enjoy being social but my social battery runs out quickly. People who have met me say it sounds like I’ve lived multiple lives (laughs) I finally got to a point where a few people talked to me, they know about my personal struggles and you know things that I’ve gotten through. I just think that can be lost on people, when they see somebody who appears to be successful in life they think they got handed a certain easier lot of cards than others. And sometimes it is the case but; I’ve learned to kind of embrace struggle. There was a period in my life when I was a young man I was trying to find ways around that, as we all do, you know that’s a life lesson I think we all have to learn. So I guess I could tell you the premise of the book is about what portions of my life have been like and how I got through them. I wrote it with the intention that…I’m hoping there are people out there like me that are going to pick up the book that know they have something in them, they don’t what to do with it, they’re not positive on how to do it, or maybe there are people who are lost and don’t know what they want to do and some of the things I’ve gone through are things they’re going through right now or go through in the future and they’ll know exactly how t proceed forward, sometimes not proceeding the way forward I did (laughs) that will be key! So it’s not me putting on a red cape and flying over Metropolis and being invincible and beating everyone up, it’s not about that at all, the whole concept of fighting growing up was always with these (holds up fists). I feel like everyone has a fight that they’re living every single day and I think there comes a point in everyone’s life where they need to start respecting the fight they’re going through and finding self respect in that and finding a belief in them that they can push through anything that they are going through. And it might not happen overnight but staying in the fight is absolutely key, it’s very, very important.’
This is a chat that is so much more than just a wrestling promo or an ad for his book, Karrion really brings a refreshing perspective to life. He is on WWE Monday Night Raw which is making a stop in Green Bay on June 16th, the week after Money In The Bank which should make for a very exciting show!
Also he broke the bats with his legs just to see if he could and that’s badass.
