The mighty Avatar is back with a sea shanty sounding metal track that is sure to get you sprinting to your closet for your nicest cable knit sweater and skipper’s capo. AHOY!
It’s a new era for the band and the hype is real. Johannes had this to say about the new track.
‘I think it will be very clear to people hearing ‘Captain Goat’, that the rules once again have changed. It will always be metal. It will always be Avatar. We will never do the same song twice and we will always find wats to reinvent ourselves. It’s the only way we know how to do this, and the only way to give ourselves a shot at being the best we have ever been. ‘Captain Goat’ use the motif of Satan and the spirit’s journey through the underworld as a meditation. It is a negotiation with the harsh state of being and finding acceptance as you navigate the ruthless darkness of life.’
As for the video, Johannes says they wanted to lean into the mythos of the afterlife.
‘In the video, we find a way to play with that, shamelessly lending imagery from various myths, folklore and legends. Besides, any day I get to see the boys undress for a part is a good day for all of us.’
If you are planning any trips to Europe next year you will have a chance to see them headline in February and March, be support for Metallica in May and June and open for Iron Maiden in July and August. Otherwise they will be in the states with Alien Weaponry and Spiritworld making their closest stop in Madison on Tuesday November 18th.
