OSHKOSH, Wis. — Two people are confirmed dead following a plane crash south of EAA Airventure.
EAA Chairman Jack Pelton confirmed there are two fatalities in the crash, Monday afternoon.
According to the Winnebago County Sherrif’s Department, multiple agencies responded to a farm field in the area of Old Knapp Rd and Nekimi Av in the Town of Nekimi for a plane crash around 12:50 p.m. This area is about two miles south of the EAA Airventure event, near the Circle R Campgrounds.
Once on scene, responders discovered that the plane was fully engulfed in fire. The Winnebago County Coroner was dispatched to the scene within minutes of the crash.
That fatal crash comes on the first day of AirVenture 2024. The names of the deceased occupants and all other plane identifiers are being withheld at this time pending notification to the family.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by NTSB.
The crash has shut down all operations at Wittmann Regional Airport.
