All That Remains released the official music video for their latest single, “Divine” – their first new music since the passing of the band’s longtime guitarist Oli Herbert. You can check it out below.
It is also the first track that the band has released on their own label, All That Remains Records, 100 percent independently.
As transcribed by Blabbermouth, frontman Phillip Labonte explained how a lot has changed with the band and the world since they last released music in 2018. “When we lost Oli in 2018 it was hard to envision a path forward, six years later and I am proud to share ‘ Divine’ with you,” he said. “All That Remains has new life, and that is thanks to the fans for their years of support. We would not be here without them. Go listen to ‘Divine’ and hit me up on twiX with your comments.”
He also touched on Jason Richardson stepping in as the new guitarist in place of Oli Herbert over five years ago, explaining that Richardson’s creativity has been fun for the band, and because this single is his debut with them, “we wanted it to be right.” He continued, “Not only is it the first record that we’ve put out without Oli Herbert, which took us a long time to kind of get used to the idea and figure out what that means and what it looks like and all kinds of things that had to happen since Oli Passed away. But this being the first record that comes out with Jason, we want it to be right. There’s not gonna be half-assed [songs] on this at all. There’s not any deep cuts – nothing at all.”
He went on to explain how the band was really able to take their time and focus on each song on this record, with it being their first independent release. “Every single song we’ve got, if someone else was, like, ‘Oh, let’s put this one out as the first single,’ it’d be fine. That would work as a first single. And that’s a big, big deal,” he explained. “Usually you’ll hear three or four songs or five and you’re, like, ‘Yeah, we’ve got some killer songs on this record. We’ve got six great songs.’ And there’s 10 or 11 songs on the record and you’re, like, ‘Yeah, these other ones are cool, but we didn’t have the time to do with them what we wanted. They didn’t quite come out the way we want, and the record label wants to have this many songs on the record, so we don’t have too…’ blah, blah, blah. ‘We’ve got a deadline.’ So you end up making compromises, and because we’re doing it ourselves, putting it out ourselves and we’ve got a career and we’re super fortunate that people still listen to our music and we’ve still got people out there that support us, so we can take our time to deliver the record that the fans deserve.”
All That Remains will join Mudvayne and Megadeth on the “Destroy All Enemies” tour this summer, which will be making a stop in Minneapolis, Minnesota at The Armory on September 24.
