Recently, there have been rumors circulating that Amy Lee from Evanescence could step up as the new lead singer for Linkin Park, who has been disbanded since the sudden passing of their front man Chester Bennington in 2017. These rumors got a lot of fans excited, but Amy Lee herself has spoken up to set the record straight.
Per Louder Sound, in an interview with Canada’s iHeart radio, Amy Lee shared her thoughts on the rumors, saying that she was flattered to hear that fans thought that this was a possibility for her. “That is an incredible compliment,” she said, acknowledging that both bands share many of the same fans. However, she clarified that no one has actually contacted her about it. “But that’s really sweet,” she added.
Amy Lee and Linkin Park do have some history together. According to Louder Sound, both bands were recording their famous albums at the same time in the same studio—Evanescence with their debut album Fallen and Linkin Park with Meteora. Lee remembered, “When we were making Fallen, I just briefly got to have a conversation or two with Chester [Bennington]. He was really sweet.“
As much as many would like them to be, Amy Lee made it clear that the rumors were not true, but she would be interested in stepping in part time if there was a need. “But no, it’s not true. But that’s awesome. They should ask me about that. I don’t have a ton of free time, but I might do it part time,” she said.
Meanwhile, Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda is busy with his own music. Per Louder Sound, he told Metal Hammer’s Paul Brannigan that he’s working on new music set to release in 2024, showing no signs of a Linkin Park reunion anytime soon. Evanescence isn’t slowing down either. They just announced a Canadian tour with Halestorm, starting in Vancouver on October 15.
