Flash back to the year 2005 with me, if you would. Where were you? I was in high school trying to figure out what heavy music was about about. I had some ideas, Sabbath, Metallica, Slayer, but those were all old guy bands (in my 16 year old brain) and I wanted something for my generation. Turns out I didn’t have to wait to long, since 2004-6 were greatest years in metal-core history (outside of today) and the amount of amazing metal songs were a mere Bearshare download, and a stern talking to by my father about why the family computer has an incurable virus, and I was in headbanger heaven!
One of the first bands I ever heard that stoked this eternal flame of heavy was Trivium and their Ascendancy album, which was the soundtrack of many a weightlifting sessions. The other was Bullet For My Valentine, affectionately known as BForMyV by Cousin Brad and myself, quickly filled the void Metallica-esque riffs and breakdowns. And now, we have a beginning of a tour that will surely pull all the metalcore nostalgia strings, harder if you will, starting in the UK. The ‘Poisoned Ascendancy’ Tour is going to feature both bands playing they’re respective albums front to back. No dates have been announced outside of the UK but maybe this is the reason to finally fly over there!
