In news that caught us completely off guard, Slipknot on Sunday (Nov. 5th) announced the departure of long-time drummer Jay Weinberg. The band put out a statement via their website and posted it to their social channels. The post has since been removed from their socials, but it remains up on Slipknot’s website.
“We would like to thank Jay Weinberg for his dedication and passion over the past ten years. No one can ever replace Joey Jordison’s original sound, style or energy, but Jay honored Joey’s parts and contributed to the last three albums and we, the band, and the fans appreciate it. But as ever, Slipknot is intent on evolving. The band has decided to make a creative decision, and to part ways with Jay. We wish Jay all the best and are very excited for what the future holds.”
There is no news as to why this decision was made, but hopefully, some sort of reason does get officially released from the band soon.
Jay is the son of legendary E Street Band drummer Max Weinberg and has been with the band since 2014 after original drummer Joey Jordinson left Slipknot in December of 2013. Jay has played an integral part of the last three Slipknot albums and his final show was this past Friday night in Mexico at the Hell and Heaven Open Air Festival. The following drum cam video is from Jay’s YouTube channel.
Last year Jay joined Cutter on his podcast Cutter’s Rockcast to talk about what it means to him to be the drummer of Slipnot
