If you had a chance to see Parkway Drive back in September at Oshkosh Arena you already know the band has got their swagger back. Even before the show I knew Parkway was FAR from being a nostalgia act. Winston and I chatted back in June of last year about the making of the album and he was incredibly stoked on the process he and the band took on Darker Still. Sitting down with him at Aftershock was a marvelous time and you could feel the passion he has for the music.
‘We never expected anything after coming back from Covid, this is year 20 for the band and to be able to still have forward momentum and having new people discovering this band and it’s still expanding and to be able to present people with more levels of what we do is really great…and that’s what’ s so great is the art keeps growing.’
There were lots of posts last year about Parkway going through some struggles, mentally and as friends in the band, but Winston said this about the group, easing any worries.
‘Personally the band has never been in a better place, we’ve never been more satisfied with what we’re doing and how everything is progressing…the spark for what we’re doing has never been brighter. Which is really awesome…it really feels great to not feel jaded or over the art that you’ve created and you just feel the desire to just do more…the fact that the tank keeps refilling is the really really awesome part.’
And then as we were getting ready to say goodbye he dropped this line.
‘And then start working on some new music…yea that’s what I said about the passion! That’s when it’s rad, when it’s only been a year… you’ve been touring your ass off and you still got all this album to roll through and you’re like “I still wanna write more!” That’s when it’s like YYYeeeaaaa!’
NEW PARKWAY, eventually! But the passion is there and that’s fantastic!
