Filter have announced their first new album in seven years, “The Algorithm”, which will arrive on August 25. The band has also released their latest single “Obliteration” in advance of the LP’s release.
According to a press release from Golden Robot Records, Consequence described the song saying, “‘Obliteration’ has the touch of a master. Band mastermind Richard Patrick has long since honed his desired sound – crisp melodic vocals, dense layers of guitar, the occasional industrial-ism – and it’s rare to hear a dud from his long-running musical project. This is steady, pocketed alternative rock performed and executed with class.”
“The Algorithm,” according to the press release, “is a tight conceptual statement heralding career-best songwriting from band architect Patrick and giving the classic Filter sound a modern sonic edge.”
“Obliteration” is no different from how the rest of the songs on the album will be, as it also combines the classic gritty Filter sound with a modern sonic grind and delivers a sound tale of a potential oncoming apocalypse. The song follows the band’s previous single “Face Down,” which was released in May.
This week, Filter is kicking off their tour at Buzzard Fest in North Ridgeville, Ohio.
