Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation has added 11 new colleges and a donation of $1.85M to expand the programs for its Metallica Scholars Initiative, according to All Access.
The foundation’s aim is to assist and enrich the lives of members of the communities who have supported the band for years, per the All Within My Hands website. All of the funds raised are donated to a cross-section of national and local charities.
This will be the fifth year of the foundation, with a roster now of 31 members. Drummer Lars Ulrich said, “This is so important to us because we are seeing results. Five years in with the help of community colleges across the country, we are helping people fill these essential jobs which require skills and training. We are so proud and grateful that we can facilitate this program.”
In partnership with the American Association of Community Colleges, the band’s major workforce education initiative launched in 2019. Now directly supporting 42 community colleges across 33 states, the Metallica Scholars Initiative (MSI) works to enhance the career and technical education programs at the colleges.
The executive director of All Within My Hands, Peter Delgrosso, said, “With the launch of the fifth year of the program, we will now have supported well over 5,000 METALLICA SCHOLARS across workforce education. The MSI is a strong and cooperative community of the nation’s best community colleges, creating a supportive climate for participants to communicate directly and share best practices. As a result, our METALLICA SCHOLARS leave the program well-trained and confident. Ultimately, the impact is felt in their local communities, and on the national scale, as METALLICA SCHOLARS enter the workforce and fill, or create, much needed workforce and technical positions.”
Each of the 11 schools that are joining the foundation this year will receive $100,000, this money will go towards enhancing the student experience as they are given career training for economic development, according to All Access.
The schools joining MSI this year include: Aiken Technical College – Aiken, SC, Central Wyoming College – Riverton, WY, Columbia State Community College – Columbia, TN, Front Range Community College – Westminster, CO, Itawamba Community College – Fulton, MS, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College – Green Bay, WI, Oxnard College – Ventura County Community College District, Oxnard, CA, South Central College – North Mankato, MN, South Louisiana Community College – Lafayette, LA, Texas State Technical College – Waco, TX, Western Dakota Technical College – Rapid City, SD.
