This year, we teamed up with the Green Bay Metro Fire Fighters to raise money in the name of mental health. In a post to Razor Wisconsin’s Facebook, we told users that each comment on the post would count as a $1 donation, up to $500, to a local mental health organization – in this case, HopeChats Community. HopeChats is a peer recovery center located in Green Bay. Not only did we get 500+ comments, but the GB Metro Fire Fighters decided to up their expected donation of $500 to $1,000, a very generous and greatly appreciated act.
Today, Big Jake and Decker were able to join members of the GB Metro Fire Fighters to present the check to HopeChats. They were extremely grateful and so deserving of this donation, as they have done and continue to do so much for the community.
According to their website, HopeChats was formed by a group of Peer Specialists who came together to build a community of inclusion and acceptance on the westside of Green Bay. They help individuals within the community to tell their stories and get the support they need while in recovery of mental/emotional wellness and/or substance abuse. The community that they have created includes those who have lived through their own experiences within those areas, and provides them with a space to come together to share their stories with one another and support each other as they move forward in their lives.
The organization provides daily support groups, SMART recovery (an international non-profit organization that provides assistance to those seeking abstinence from addiction), arts and crafts, book club, therapy pet days, yoga, and so much more to those that utilize their services.
We want to thank the GB Metro Fire Fighters for their generous donation to this great local mental health organization, and HopeChats for all that they do for the community. You can learn more about HopeChats and what they offer, as well as make your own donation to help them continue to do the great work they’ve been doing here.
