Landon Tewers has had a hand in many of the metalcore albums we have been hyped about for the last 7 or so years. From producing albums to recording atmospheric transitions to full-on writing for bands, he’s done it all. While doing all of that he also finds time to write, record and produce for his own band The Plot In You. They have been a mainstay in the metalcore scene for a number of years and Landon has been the one making the noises you hear. One hot-button issue that has been thrown around lately has been the use of laptops and computer tracks while recording music, Landon is a firm believer in their use and thinks a lot of good can come from using them.
‘Honestly I feel like I don’t know anybody that writes in the ‘old school way’ like gets in a practice space…I feel like maybe sadly that’s a thing of the past, at least in this genre of music…it’s just made things so much easier to do it that way. I’m sure you can find some negatives about it…for me it just grows creativity, you get the luxury of trying so many different things so you know, I like it.’
We chatted about the new song ‘Left Behind’ and what it means to him. He said it’s more of a “celebration of getting out” of a toxic relationship and finding “the excitement of leaving…and growing from that”.
Talking about the state of music and how he and the band want to release their new music and he said this.
‘If it were up to me we would never release an album ever again.(laughs)’
He continues speaking about why he feels that way and says this.
‘Dude it’s such a bummer. I enjoy making song, I enjoy writing albums, I guess the biggest bummer is you spend like all of this time, sometimes years putting work into an album putting your heart and soul into something and like it’s pretty much only the singles that get attention and the rest of the album that kind of gets overlooked…There are a few songs on some of our records that I’ve never heard anyone say ‘oh I love that song’…it just got completely buried…To me it just felt more rewarding to just put all my effort into individual songs rather than to write 10 songs that kind of come together and most of them get lost…I think this was a good test trial… and it really worked well.’
Landon is a fantastic listen and all the music he has worked on has been top notch! Looking forward to seeing The Plot In You on tour soon!
