Legendary metal band Pantera has announced their first US show not opening for Metallica, and it will be right here in Wisconsin.
Yesterday afternoon, (Dec. 12), it was revealed on social media that the Texas-based groove metal act will be headlining the 2023 Rock Fest music festival in Cadott, Wisconsin. This announcement comes on the backburner of their massive world tour announcement with Metallica in 2023/24, as well as their first couple of shows in South America.
Rock Fest will take place from July 13th through the 15th in 2023. No other acts have been announced as of yet, nor is it known which day Pantera will play.
Pantera took to the stage for the first time in over 20 years this past week at several festivals across Mexico and South America. The band is currently comprised of original members Philip Anselmo on vocals, Rex Brown on bass, and touring musicians Zakk Wylde on guitar, and Charlie Benante on drums. The estate of late band members and brothers Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul have given their blessing for the tribute shows, saying that there is no better way to continue the legacy of Pantera and the Abbott brothers then bringing the music back to the fans.
Rex Brown is currently sidelined with COVID-19, with Derek Engemann (ex Cattle Decapitation bassist) filling in for now.
Check out some video of Pantera performing “Walk” at Hell And Heaven Fest in Mexico earlier this month! This performance marked the first show under the Pantera banner since 2001.
