On the heels of the massive world tour announcement from metal pioneers Metallica, a statement has been issued regarding one of the support acts for the tour. That group in question is Pantera, or… a skeleton version of what was once Pantera.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Pantera vocalist Philip Anselmo, and bassist Rex Brown would reunite to play shows as Pantera for the first time since 2001. Immediately questions were raised about who would be filling in for the late Abbott brothers, Vinnie Paul on drums, and Dimebag Darrell on guitar. Guitarist Zakk Wylde of Black Label Society, and drummer Charlie Benate of Anthrax stepped up to fill the void, with approval from the Abbott brother’s estate. The group is seen as more of a tribute act, than a full reunion of the band. This sentiment was echoed by the estate of Vinnie Paul earlier this week, who put out a statement regarding the impending Pantera shows across the globe.
“There can never be a PANTERA reunion without Vinnie and Dime. However, there is no better way to celebrate and honor Vinnie and Dime’s legacy, than to bring the music of PANTERA directly to the fans. We are honored that Charlie and Zakk, their very close friends and musical brothers, will share the stage with Philip and Rex, to unleash the power of PANTERA live around the world.

Pantera will stop through Chicago, Illinois at Solider Field in August of 2024 supporting Metallica. The group put out a promotional video on their social media channels getting fans ready for live Pantera music for the first time in over 20 years.
