Legendary metal pioneers Metallica have just announced their 12th studio album, due out in the spring of 2023. The new record is titled 72 Seasons, and features 12 tracks with over 77 minutes of Metallica goodness. Vocalist James Hetfield comments on the meaning behind the new record.
“72 seasons. The first 18 years of our lives that form our true or false selves. The concept that we were told ‘who we are’ by our parents. A possible pigeonholing around what kind of personality we are. I think the most interesting part of this is the continued study of those core beliefs and how it affects our perception of the world today. Much of our adult experience is reenactment or reaction to these childhood experiences. Prisoners of childhood or breaking free of those bondages we carry.”
In addition to the new album announcement, Metallica also dropped a new single titled “Lux Æterna” as well as a subsequent music video. The new track has an old school metal vibe to it, which has fans hoping for a classic Metallica sound throughout the rest of the record. 72 Seasons will be released on April 14th, 2023, and can be pre-ordered HERE.
